Scanning a location
In CinemaCrew: Home → 3D Scan, or Scouting → Scan room. Walk the space slowly, covering surfaces from several angles. The bundle uploads in the background and reconstructs off-device.
Start from Scouting, walk it slowly, then leave it
Start from the right place
From Scouting → Scan room if it belongs to a scouted item or location, so it files itself. From Home → 3D Scan otherwise. That entry point has nothing to attach to, so the scan arrives unfiled and you link it later.
Turn the lights on
Reconstruction handles even light well and a single hard window badly. Room lights on, curtains closed if the sun is blowing out one wall.
Walk the perimeter, then cross it
Cover the space from its edges looking in, then walk through the middle. Reconstruction needs the same surface seen from several angles. One pass down the centre gives you a scan with holes in every corner.
Go slower than feels natural
Motion blur is the main cause of a soft scan. Walk at about half your normal pace and let the phone settle when you change direction.
Shoot extra around glass
Mirrors and large windows confuse every photogrammetric method. Expect artefacts there and give them more coverage than you think they need.
Leave it alone
The raw bundle is large and uploads in the background, so it does not need the app in the foreground. Reconstruction runs off-device and takes a while. Go and do something else; the scan will be there.
The guided capture tracks how much of the space you’ve covered, so the app can tell you which way you haven’t looked. Watch it rather than guessing.
