Scan the room

1. Start the scan

   In CinemaCrew, tap 3D Scan on the Home screen, or Scan room on the Scouting tab in Runner. The phone needs AR support. If it has none, the card reads Needs a LiDAR iPhone or iPad.

2. Pick Draft or Final

   The app asks What’s this scan for? Draft is a quick look with a smaller upload. Final records at full size, uploads far more, and costs about twenty times as much to rebuild. You can rebuild a draft at final quality later, but only from the frames it took, so choose here.

3. Point at the floor

   Point the phone at the floor for a moment until the floor stat shows a tick. That’s how the scan knows which way is up.

4. Walk it slowly

   Walk the edges of the room looking in, then cross through the middle. Go at half your normal pace. The dial shows which way you haven’t looked yet, and the line under it tells you what to do next.

5. Finish and upload

   Tap Finish scan. It reads Keep scanning… until there’s enough to use. Keep the screen open while it says Uploading…, until you see Scan uploaded. If the upload stops, tap Try again.

6. Find it on the web

   Open 3D Scans in the project. The new scan shows as Queued, then Reconstructing, then Ready. The list checks for news on its own while a scan is in progress.

Tips for a clean scan

• Turn the room lights on, and close the curtains if the sun is blasting one wall.
• A fast walk blurs the frames, and blurred frames make a soft scan.
• Mirrors and big windows confuse the rebuild. Give them extra passes and expect some mess there.
• If the app warns that coverage is low, walk the part you missed before you finish. A wall you never looked at comes back soft or missing.
