Filmmaker Fellowship 2026
Filmmaker Fellowship
Real money behind independent films.
An annual grant for independent filmmakers doing standout work with Cinema Set Free — production funding, a year of Pro, AI credits, and a spotlight to match your ambition.
Why we do this
Great tools should pay the people who make things with them.
Cinema Set Free exists because independent filmmakers keep proving that a small crew with the right tools can make something an audience actually wants to watch. But making a film is expensive, and the people pushing hardest are often the ones with the least runway.
The Fellowship is our way of investing in them directly — not with vague "exposure," but with money toward the production, the full toolkit to plan it, and a real push behind the finished film. We'd rather fund a handful of ambitious filmmakers than run one more ad.
If you're making something genuinely new, this is us betting on you.

A real spotlight
We feature your film and your story across the CSF homepage, newsletter, and socials — in front of a community of filmmakers.
Hands-on support
A direct line to the team for breakdown, scheduling, and budgeting help — plus honest feedback while you plan.
A community of makers
Join the other fellows in a private space to swap techniques, share cuts, and push each other's work further.
What we're looking for
Three things every strong application has in common.
Independent
You're an independent filmmaker — solo or a small crew — making the film on your own terms, not a studio-funded production.
Original
The project is your own work: an original film, series, or short you're the driving force behind — not someone else's IP.
Ambitious
Show us something that reaches. Not a test — a real project you're serious about finishing and putting in front of an audience.
