Reviewing an Import
After uploading a script, CSF shows you everything it parsed — scenes, characters, and locations — with checkboxes so you can enable or disable individual items before confirming the import.
The Review Screen
Once CSF finishes parsing your screenplay, you're taken to the review screen. This is your chance to inspect what was extracted and decide what to keep before anything is saved to your project.
Choosing What to Import
The review screen is organized into three sections:
- Scenes — Every scene heading found in the script. Each entry shows the scene heading text (e.g., "INT. COFFEE SHOP - DAY").
- Characters — Character names extracted from dialogue blocks. Duplicates are merged automatically.
- Locations — Locations parsed from scene headings. Interior and exterior variants of the same place may appear as separate entries.
Each item has a checkbox. By default everything is selected. Uncheck items you don't want to import — for example, minor characters you don't plan to storyboard, or duplicate location variants you'd rather consolidate later.
Confirming the Import
When you're satisfied with your selections, click the Confirm Import button. CSF creates the script record along with all checked scenes, characters, and locations in your project.
The Completion Summary
After the import finishes, you'll see a summary showing how many items were created:
- Number of scenes created
- Number of characters created
- Number of locations created
The summary includes links to jump directly to the Scenes, Characters, or Locations tabs so you can start working with the imported data right away.
Tips
- You can always re-import a script later using the Redo Import action to re-parse scenes, characters, and locations.
- If your script has unconventional formatting, check that scene headings start with INT., EXT., or similar Fountain-standard prefixes so the parser picks them up correctly.
- Characters are identified from dialogue cues. If a character name doesn't appear above any dialogue, it won't be extracted automatically.
