Importing a Script

Click Import Script, then upload a Fountain, Final Draft, or PDF file, drag-and-drop it onto the modal, or paste your screenplay text directly. CSF parses it and takes you to the review step.

The Import Script Button

At the top of the Scripts tab you'll find the Import Script button. Clicking it opens the import modal where you can provide your screenplay content.

Supported Formats

.fountain

The native Fountain plain-text screenplay format. This is the recommended format — no conversion needed.

.txt

Plain text files written in Fountain syntax. Works exactly like .fountain files — just a different extension.

.fdx (Final Draft)

Final Draft XML files are automatically converted to Fountain format on upload. The conversion preserves scene headings, character names, dialogue, and action lines.

.pdf

PDF screenplays are extracted and automatically reformatted into Fountain. The parser handles page numbers, (CONT'D) markers, and other PDF artifacts. Works best with screenplays exported from screenwriting software.

Three Ways to Import

File Upload

Click the drop zone to open a file picker and select your script file.

Drag & Drop

Drag a file from your computer directly onto the drop zone in the modal.

Paste Text

Switch to the text tab and paste your Fountain-formatted screenplay directly.

The Import Modal

After you provide your script content, CSF parses the Fountain text and transitions to the review step where you can choose which scenes, characters, and locations to import.
