Roles & Positions
TL;DR — CSF ships with 50+ built-in crew positions organized by department. Each position has a default day rate. When you add a position to your project, you get a ProjectCrewPosition with a per-project day rate that feeds directly into budgeting and deal memos.
Built-In Crew Positions
CSF includes a comprehensive catalog of crew positions covering every major film department. The first time you open the Team tab, the global position database is automatically seeded with all default positions. These are shared across all projects but each project tracks its own day rates.

Per-Project Day Rates
Each global crew position has a default day rate. When you add a position to your project, CSF creates a ProjectCrewPosition record with a day rate that you can customize. Changing the rate on one project doesn’t affect other projects or the global default.
Day rates flow directly into the budgeting system. When you build your budget, crew line items pull their rates from the ProjectCrewPosition data, giving you accurate department-level totals.
How Roles Feed Into Budgeting & Deal Memos
- Budgeting: crew positions and their day rates populate budget line items. Adjust a rate and the budget updates automatically.
- Deal Memos: when creating a deal memo for a team member, their role and agreed rate pre-fill from the ProjectCrewPosition data.
- Scheduling: crew positions determine who appears on call sheets and daily schedules.
