Generating Location Portraits
Open the portrait modal to generate landscape establishing shots, upload your own images, browse version history, and fine-tune settings. Locations default to 16:9 aspect ratio for cinematic establishing shots.
Opening the Portrait Modal
Click a location’s portrait thumbnail or the Generate / Regenerate button on any location row. The modal opens with the location’s current portrait (if one exists) on the left and all controls on the right.
Landscape by Default
Unlike character portraits, location portraits default to a 16:9 aspect ratio. This produces wide, cinematic establishing shots that match standard film framing. You can change the aspect ratio in the modal if needed.
Modal Layout
The modal is split into two columns:
Left Column
Landscape image display area, version navigation arrows, and drag-and-drop / clipboard paste zone for uploading.
Right Column
All generation controls: image prompt, style prompt, model picker, aspect ratio, negative prompt, seed, and the Generate button.
Prompt Controls
- Image prompt — An editable text area. The default template is “Cinematic establishing shot of [setting] [timeOfDay] — [description]”. Click the fullscreen button to expand the editor.
- Style prompt — Read-only, pulled from the active production design’s visual style direction.
- Model picker — Select which AI model to use for generation.
- Aspect ratio — Defaults to 16:9 for locations. Choose from preset ratios.
- Negative prompt — Describe what you don’t want in the image. Availability depends on the selected model.
- Seed — A number for reproducible results. Availability depends on the selected model.
Auto-Describe Inside the Modal
If a location has no description yet, the modal shows an Auto-Describe button. Clicking it generates a description from the location’s scene context (setting, time of day, style prompt) and uses it as the image prompt. This lets you go straight from an empty location to a generated portrait in one step.
Uploading an Image
You can upload your own establishing shot in three ways:
- File picker — Click the upload area to open a file browser
- Drag-and-drop — Drag an image file onto the left column
- Clipboard paste — Copy an image and press Ctrl+V / Cmd+V
Version Navigation
Every generated or uploaded portrait becomes a new version. Use the Older and Newer arrow buttons to browse through the version history. The version counter shows your position (e.g., “3 of 7”).
- Use This Version — Set an older portrait as the current active portrait
- Metadata display — Each version shows the model used, seed value, and negative prompt
Save as Design Default
When you find a seed and negative prompt combination you like, click Save as Design Default to persist those settings to the active production design. Future portrait generations for other locations will use the same defaults.
