We were hired by a young writer to do the first 3 episodes of her short web series, the Morning After. A hair-raising tale of a young female looking for love, only trouble is she’s got a serious case of lycanthropy. She becomes a wolf, over night.
The 3rd episode was our favorite. By that point the crew had been working together for a few weeks and we wanted to stretch our goals. Putting serious thought into the composition and the fight choreography. Levi Morger played our man of the evening, and Jennie Louis played our Wolf girl.
The location in this film also blew me away. We shot the opening in the East Village, and with the help of a very friendly cab driver. The rest was shot in a beautiful apartment in Astoria. The windows at the end were the reason I felt I had to shoot there. The space allowed us room to rehearse the fight choreography. Bringing in knee pads for the crawling around. The actors were good sports, but anyone gets sore after a few falls. To get good at it, they needed to do it for hours.
The film was edited by our friend Melissa Baliant at Ultrabland. She’s found a brilliant place to add a little CG blood spatter. See if you can spot it.
All in all the series didn’t take off, but the benefits of doing it weekend after weekend with the same group of people was not lost on us. It allowed us to really fine tune our communication with everyone. We each found little ways to add to what was in the frame. Rachel would find a way to have feathers floating the air after she hits him with a pillow.
