There is only one way to make a movie. Roll up your sleeves and start crossing shit off lists. CSF knows this. CSF made list crossing into an art form. We love helping filmmakers find what they need to finish a film. The key word is always finish. Now we're solidifying our philosophy on production into a web application that will afford indy filmmakers across the country the pleasure of running a smooth, efficient production. We're still hooking you up but it's time for an upgrade and were getting the robots involved. It's not another worthless social network. It's a way to produce your film while helping your brother and sister filmmaker make theirs. CSF's membership is invite only, so please find a way to get involved.

There are thousands of indy filmmakers solving production problems daily. Where do I find this or how to get that? When we agree to work together, everyone's solutions to these common problems are multiplied over and over. The more people the easier and yes cheaper it gets to produce a movie. Indy filmmakers don't get to wash away their problems with the money hose. We must find a way to solve them, together. There is a better way and it starts by curbing the competitive bullshit and realizing we all want the same thing. We want to work. There's always room to expand when it comes to entertainment. Our audience is in satiable. The more we work together the more work we create.

CSF is an idea that brought together a group of Brooklyn filmmakers in '04. But make no mistake, the idea is what matters, not the name. In every city in America there exists capable filmmakers and audiences willing to support their local and niche artists. Local leaders are needed to build an industry from the ground up, with help from brothers & sisters across the country. Each city will come into their own on their own terms. No matter where we live or travel, members will have a home and a path to creation. Together, we will build a way to make a living doing what we love. Keep your team small, quick and always busy. Act professionally and you will build a real career making your art on your own terms. This is CSF.

When we say "filmmaker" we mean, anyone involved with making a film. Actors, producers, craftsmen, etc. Those involved in a project strengthen it through their collective knowledge and experience. We are stronger as an industry and an art when an actor knows how to produce and a writer learns how to paint with light. This is a culture that breeds innovation. Filmmaking is a fascinating and broad subject and each of us know a bit of it. By opening the process on-set and off, asking questions of your teammates and taking the time to teach, we reverse a century old "hands-off" system that has given way to animosity, blame games and problems communicating. On a set, as in any project, communication is king.

All independent film movements are built on new ideas for exhibition as well as production. Festivals, markets and the internet are only as good as our ability to get people excited about our projects. Promotion must start early and the word must be of mouth. Great ideas need no advertisement. They always find their way. Niche films no longer need to sit on the margin. Quality work will always have an audience. The barrier between artist and their paying audience disintegrates if we reinvent exhibition and promotion. CSF is building the revolutionary technologies to do exactly that. Your mission is to make a film you are passionate about. Do that and it will find its audience.

This needs no explanation. You know what I'm taking about. This is the ultimate goal of CSF. By expanding the industry and allowing local cultures and local ideas to permeate the work, we usher in an era of cinema unlike any other. The focus is always telling great stories with the moving image but these stories will reflect all of American culture. America is not just New York or LA and it's time the rest of the world see that. Independent film, by definition, bucks the mainstream. It's a reaction to it, until it is swallowed by it. CSF is about more. It's about accelerating an art-form that presently crawls and seems to innovate only to spite itself. May the creative people be in charge of creating once again and may the best ideas win.
