Ainsley came to my window. I worked in the equipment room in the basement of NYU. She had just written a trilogy of shorts after watching a shitload of Bergman. She needed someone to shoot these scripts into movies. The thing I loved about them was the images. The way she wrote the images. I learned a lot from those scripts.
We cast from amongst her friends, though I seem to remember a day of casting. We found wonderful people for all 3 roles. The lead actress pulled out at the last minute. So Ainsley had to star. So glad she did.
Moment was always the first of a trilogy, because it was a music video and we figured sound was harder. But shooting on an DVX-1000 at night is also hard. The subway was fun and a hellova easier than you’d think. I mean we had tape and posters everywhere. We saw the NYPD, they were nice, let us finish the shot. I recommend it. It’s bright enough and people didn’t really care. They’d seen it all.
