For the 2012 48 hour film festival, Jon and I wanted to work more as a collaborative. We invited anyone from the crew to come to his house the night we got the festival constraints and our particular genre. Dark Comedy. We dove in and began crafting a story around our heroes of the genre. Wes Anderson was most present in the conversation.
– “Let’s do something about a rich family who just fucking hate each other.”
– “Okay. Let’s do something about death. Death’s dark, right?”
We had an empty restaurant space that was sort of being built as we were shooting. The kitchen hadn’t been installed, really. We also had an upstairs office space. Jon get’s all the credit for weaving a brilliant tale of a rich old koot sticking it to his behated family.
We ran last the night of the showing, and once again lost to films with flashier cinematography. They definately deserved to win, if the contest was, who’s got the best cinematography. Our’s was funny and a little bit twisted. Just the kind of story we like.
