I began my professional relationship with Fred Astaire in the winter of 2012. I’d been taking lessons from them for some months and truly enjoyed the craft of ballroom dancing. The owner needed an extra camera on their upcoming showcase. They do a special event twice a year. Their students sign up to perform a number in a professionally choreographed, themed showcase. They were looking to update their website with some slick video to showcase the 6 kinds of dances they taught.
The shoot was the day after the Halloween showcase, so the background was blacked out. Jessi and Alex, the instructors and owners of the studio, invited their best students, Uriah and Amber to dance with them. We shot for a few hours and I cut something together that could fit on their front page. Ultra-wide screen style.
That began a long relationship of shoot and cutting future showcases, as well as other dance events, like the PCRI Dancing with the Stars event and competitions happening in town.
